About the role

We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our Design Team. You will take full ownership of the look, feel, and experience of our marketing and documentation sites.

In this role, design and code are fully intertwined. You will not hand off to engineers. You will ship it yourself.

You will move from spotting what needs improving to building and deploying it. You will work with minimal direction and maximum ownership.

This role is ideal for someone who builds at work and in their personal time. You are deeply curious about developer tools. You thrive in async environments where you are trusted to run with a problem and find the best solution.

What you will be responsible for

• Own the end-to-end design and experience of supabase.com sites. This includes our marketing website, the documentation site, and mini-sites such as Select Conf and Launch Week. You will also spot problems with these sites, ship fixes, and keep improving them.
• Work with Product Marketing, Engineering, Product, and the Docs team. Make sure every page is clear and useful.
• Make sure our sites have beautiful typography, layout, diagrams, and code blocks.
• Build and ship live pages using modern front-end frameworks (React, Next.js, Vite). You will have an active voice in choosing libraries and frameworks.
• Evolve our design system and reusable components, so our sites stay consistent and scalable.
• Refine illustrations, diagrams, and messaging to improve technical clarity.
• Proactively find areas of the site that need improvement. Drive them forward without waiting to be asked.

You might be a good fit if you

• Are genuinely both a designer and a front-end developer. You are as comfortable in code as you are in Figma. You do not treat them as separate activities.
• Actively use AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, and so on) to experiment, prototype, or ship websites, apps, features, or products.
• Have designed and built for developers or technical audiences. Examples include dev tools, crypto, tech startups, or AI. You understand who we are talking to.
• Are actively building things outside of work. Side projects, personal experiments — you are curious, and you ship.
• Write production-quality front-end code using React, Next.js, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and component libraries like shadcn, Radix, and Base UI.
• Take a broad brief and run with it. You spot what is worth working on, share your thinking, and get it done.
• Are comfortable working async and independently in a globally distributed team.
• Move fast without losing craft. You balance quality with speed and know when good enough is good enough.
