Summary

You will run laboratory testing on patient specimens. The work covers one or more sections of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Carry out diagnostic and analytic testing of specimens. Interpret, document, and report test results.
• Perform quality control testing, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Follow good laboratory practice and regulatory requirements.
• Take on projects as assigned. Serve as a resource to laboratory staff and other clinical staff when needed.

Within the scope of the job, you will need critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. You must be able to work in a fast-paced setting and take appropriate action.

Requirements

Education

• A Bachelor’s degree.
• You must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist program.

Licensure and certification

• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Categorical ASCP certification in a laboratory specialty or sub-specialty is also accepted, where it applies to job responsibilities.
• State licensure, if required by law.
• Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
