Job summary
The Respiratory Therapist provides care for patients with respiratory disorders. The position involves assessing patient conditions, delivering ordered respiratory treatments, monitoring patient responses, documenting care, and communicating changes in patient conditions as appropriate.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver ordered respiratory therapy according to the established plan of care and assess the patient’s response to treatment.
- Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions as appropriate.
- Assess patient conditions and provide appropriate treatment using established protocols.
- Respond to emergency codes and calls for assistance when required.
- Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
- Educate patients and their families about illnesses and provide information about available community resources.
- Apply critical thinking and decisive judgment within the scope of the position.
- Work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Take appropriate action based on patient needs and clinical circumstances.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- State licensure.
- NRP, ACLS, and PALS certification within six months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association or CPR for the Professional Rescuer through the American Red Cross.
- BLS or CPR certification must be presented with the card in hand before the start date and must remain valid through sixty days of hire.
