Job Overview

MMA Stick Welder job in Peterborough is available with Shorterm Group for experienced welders with a strong mechanical background. This role is suited to someone who is confident with MMA welding, comfortable with practical maintenance work, and ready to support vehicle repair tasks.

The position is a contract role to start, with the opportunity to move into a permanent role after approximately one month. The work mainly involves vehicle maintenance, repairs, and occasional corrosion work. When welding is not required, the successful candidate will also provide basic fitting support.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the maintenance team with welding, repair, and mechanical tasks.

Responsibilities include:

• Carrying out reactive maintenance
• Supporting preventative maintenance work
• Completing vehicle examinations after training
• Handling MMA welding duties on vehicles
• Assisting with repairs and occasional corrosion work
• Providing basic fitting support when required
• Supporting slinging and lifting tasks
• Working outdoors in different weather conditions
• Attending off-site breakdowns when needed
• Lodging occasionally once fully competent

Candidate Requirements

Shorterm Group is looking for a skilled and reliable welder with good practical experience.

Applicants should have:

• Strong MMA welding experience
• Welding certifications, preferably
• Solid mechanical background from any industry
• Full UK driving licence
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Flexibility to attend off-site breakdowns
• Ability to stay overnight occasionally when required

Experience with wagons or rolling stock would be beneficial, but it is not essential.

Working Hours

The working pattern is:

• 5 days per week, out of 7
• Shift pattern to be confirmed
• 9-hour shifts
• 45 hours per week

Future shift patterns may change. At least one month’s notice will be given before any change. This may include nights and weekends, which will attract a 15% pay uplift.

Pay and Benefits

The pay package includes:

• £17.52 per hour
• £41,000+ per annum
• Overtime
• Shift uplift
• 15% uplift for future night and weekend work, where applicable

Training Provided

The successful candidate will receive initial competency training in Peterborough before rotating with existing staff.

Training and support include:

• Paid PTS, Personal Track Safety, course in the first week
• Full training in wagon maintenance
• Full training in vehicle examination
• Opportunity to work at a new facility

Recruitment Process
