Position summary

You will complete heavy mechanical modifications of Rolling Stock vehicles — specifically Class 221 and 170 units. You will be expected to complete tasks from written work instructions, including mechanical strips and refits on components. You will also work on modifications of heavy diesel engines.

This is a safety-critical position. It is a requirement against the Service Agreement (SA). The position is based on a busy maintenance depot.

What you will do

  • Complete diesel engine repairs.
  • Work from written instruction (VMI).
  • Work from mechanical engineering drawings, to specific measurements.
  • Replace mechanical components to correspond to engineering drawings.
  • Work flexibly with a maintenance team.
  • Carry out bogie exchanges.
  • Carry out caliper changes.
  • Carry out axle changes.
  • Work on traction motors.

Person profile and experience

No previous rail experience is required. The recruiter will consider applicants who have worked in any of the listed industries, but you must have Mechanical Maintenance or Diesel Engine experience.
