Head Chef job in Northamptonshire is open at Avery Healthcare for a warm, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual to join the team at Spencer House Care Home.

This permanent role is ideal for an experienced chef who can lead a kitchen team and provide a high-quality culinary service for residents. The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day kitchen operation, prepare balanced meals, and help make sure residents receive food that supports their health, comfort, and overall wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

The Head Chef will manage and lead the culinary team while delivering meals that are nutritious, balanced, and prepared to a high standard.

Main duties include:

  • Managing and leading the culinary team
  • Providing a comprehensive, high-quality food service for residents
  • Preparing nutritionally balanced meals within budget
  • Preparing modified diets that are appealing and well-balanced
  • Following IDDSI guidance when preparing modified diets
  • Placing food orders with approved suppliers
  • Working within the correct level of purchasing authority
  • Maintaining suitable stock levels and stock control
  • Buying good-quality provisions within agreed budget limits
  • Supervising kitchen staff and the Host team
  • Directing the work of other kitchen staff
  • Showing unqualified staff simple food preparation tasks
  • Practising safe systems of work across kitchen duties
  • Assessing risks when moving and handling loads
  • Protecting the safety of residents, visitors, and staff

Candidate Requirements

Avery Healthcare is looking for a Head Chef who can live the company’s values of caring, support, honesty, respect, and accountability.

Applicants should have:

  • Two years’ experience managing a culinary team in the care or hospitality sector
  • A relevant catering qualification, such as City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ
  • Passion and commitment to high-quality culinary standards
  • Ability to deliver good food service for residents
  • Ability to control a kitchen budget
  • A caring and respectful approach to work
  • Good leadership skills
  • Strong attention to safety, quality, and resident wellbeing
