Conference Sous Chef job in Canary Wharf is open at Compass Group for a talented and driven chef with experience in conferences, hospitality, or a high-volume kitchen environment.

This permanent role offers a salary of £42,000 per annum and gives the successful candidate the chance to support a busy conference and hospitality operation. The kitchen delivers high-quality, seasonal, and bespoke menus for events of up to 400 guests.

The role is suited to someone who can manage a fast-paced kitchen, support large events, and help deliver consistent food quality across weekly conferences and major multi-day events.

Key Responsibilities

The Conference Sous Chef will help manage food production and support the smooth running of the conference kitchen.

Main duties include:

• Managing the conference kitchen and supporting profitable food production
• Delivering high-quality food for weekly conferences
• Supporting large multi-day events throughout the year
• Planning menus for events and hospitality services
• Overseeing food purchasing
• Managing stock control
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness across kitchen areas
• Ensuring food safety standards are followed
• Supporting seasonal and bespoke menu development
• Leading the kitchen team through clear communication
• Supporting team performance management
• Helping the kitchen achieve labour and GP targets

Candidate Requirements

Compass Group is looking for a confident chef who can work independently and manage kitchen operations from a commercial point of view.

Applicants should have:

• Experience in conferences or a high-volume kitchen
• Confidence working independently
• Experience managing kitchen operations commercially
• A good understanding of health and safety regulations
• A good understanding of food safety regulations
• Flexibility to work early mornings and late evenings
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to lead a busy kitchen team
• A calm and organised approach to work

An NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery, or an equivalent qualification, is preferred.

Intermediate Food Hygiene or Level 3 certification is also preferred.
