Job Title: Radiographer

Role Overview
The Radiographer will report to the Head of the Radiology Unit and will be responsible for examining various types of images, including X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, mammograms, and MRI scans. The role plays a critical part in the diagnosis of patients by capturing images of bones, organs, and tissues. Additionally, the radiographer will ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures when operating radiation equipment to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation. The incumbent will be responsible for operating imaging machinery, maintaining radiation safety, communicating results to physicians, and collecting patient histories through interviews.
Key Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic imaging procedures, including MRI, CT scans, X-rays, mammography, and ultrasounds.

Communicate test results and diagnoses to the patient’s primary physician through detailed reports.

Obtain patient histories through direct interviews.

Take responsibility for radiation safety within the work area, ensuring equipment is free of malfunctions or errors.

Stay current by attending all relevant training on treatment and equipment.

Monitor patients during and after radiation to ensure proper responses to treatments.

Set accurate radiation levels in accordance with established standards and obtain patient consent for diagnostic imaging to meet legal requirements.

Supervise and monitor radiography assistants and student radiographers.

Produce and submit reports as required.

Record and store patient examination results, ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act and Patient Confidentiality codes.

Develop films and process digital images to produce high-quality radiographs for physician interpretation.

Build a relationship with patients and their families, showing sensitivity and care.

Operate technical equipment with confidence and responsibility.

Regularly observe and assess patient responses to treatment.

Maintain electronic records and documentation of findings.

Prepare comprehensive reports of all diagnostic findings.
Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Medical Radiography.

Completion of the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or exemption certificate.

Knowledge of MRI scans is a significant advantage.

A minimum of 3 to 5 years of post-NYSC experience.

Proficiency with Healthcare Management Systems.

A current practicing license is required.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
